Drawing People in Action (Part 2)
Now that you can draw a moving person in stick form, it won't be hard to complete the picture. For this lesson, we'll use this picture of a ballerina (this drawing and more can be found on
Story Soup Kids.)

1. On your paper, draw a STICK FIGURE of the ballerina. Be sure to draw your stick man VERY LIGHTLY, as these lines are serving as guidelines for when you’re ready to draw the whole person. Remember, the arms and legs only bend at the shoulders/hips and elbows/knees. Besides those places, the arms are STRAIGHT – don’t give your drawing broken bones by bending them where they don’t bend! Also, be sure to double-check your proportions. Once you have the head drawn, you can measure everything by the size of the head. Below is an example:

2. When your stick figure is complete, it’s time to add on everything else. Imagine your stick figure is the skeleton of the person – the clothes, the body, etc. would all go AROUND the lines of the skeleton. For example:

3. Once you have completed your person in action, go back and erase the stick man. We were using the stick figure as guidelines but not as part of the finished picture.4. If time permits, try drawing another person. Start with the stick man, then add the body and clothes. You can find more people to draw on the
Story Soup Kids
website, or use one of these also from the site:
