South Carolina 2012 Radon Poster Contest

(South Carolina Only)

From the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control:

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control in partnership with The Upstate South Carolina Home Inspector Association is sponsoring its fifth statewide radon poster contest. Help spread an important public health message by entering this contest!

Radon is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas. It is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that forms when uranium breaks down in rocks and soil. Radon gas moves through the ground to the surface and can enter homes and buildings. There is no way to know the radon level unless it is tested. Testing for radon is important because radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.

The Contest and Prizes:

The S.C. poster contest will have three overall winners and three Honorable Mention awards chosen by a judging panel.

Overall Awards:

• First place will receive $250 cash and $100 for all the schools listed here.

• Second place will receive $150 cash and $100 to the school.

• Third place will receive $100 cash and $100 to the school.

Honorable Mention Awards:

• Two Honorable Mention awards, 11 years old & under will receive $50 cash and $50 to the school

• One Honorable Mention award, 12 yrs old & older will receive $50 cash and $50 to the school.

A ceremony will honor the winners. The state contest prizes are being sponsored by The Upstate South Carolina Home Inspector Association. All winners will be entered into the National Radon Poster Contest sponsored by Kansas State University and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The National winners will receive gift cards in the amount of $1000 for first place, $600 for second, $400 for third, and $400 for special online voting recognition.
